Why St. Michael Indian School

Our mission is to provide students from local Native American communities with a quality education that is rooted in Catholic values, is sensitive to native heritage, teaches leadership skills, and enables students to contribute in a culturally diverse world. We achieve our mission through a comprehensive and well-balanced approach. Our curriculum is complemented by faith formation, fostering a holistic educational experience. We encourage students to explore their interests through a variety of clubs, sports, and service opportunities, promoting personal growth and a sense of community responsibility.

The St. Michael Indian School community is characterized by an encouraging, supportive, and diverse atmosphere. Our dedicated faculty is committed to the success of every student, and our championship athletic programs, along with enriching music and art education, contribute to a vibrant learning environment. In addition to our existing strengths, we have introduced a special focus on STREAM education (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), enhancing our curriculum to prepare students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. Our students are not only academically ready to meet high standards but are also empowered to achieve their personal best.

As a testament to our commitment, our prepared graduates consistently pursue higher education opportunities nationwide, with many attending top universities such as Cornell and Dartmouth with most graduates choosing state universities, community colleges, and trade schools, earning scholarship awards that cover full tuition. Many of our alumni continue their academic journey by pursuing Master’s and Doctorate degrees.

At St. Michael Indian School, we believe in nurturing not only academic excellence but also the holistic development of individuals who are equipped to make meaningful contributions to society.

FUNDING YOUR STUDENT'S PRIVATE EDUCATION

We are committed to making an education at SMIS possible for all families and students. In fact, we are currently the least expensive Catholic middle and high school tuition in the state of Arizona, and about 92 percent of our students participate in one or more types of financial assistance.  Each school year, over $500,000 in scholarships and financial aid is awarded to students from organizations St. Michael partners with. There are numerous opportunities available for families to apply.

CHOOSE AN EDUCATION MODEL THAT BEST FITS YOUR CHILD’ S NEEDS
School Choice is any policy that allows families to take their children’s education dollars to the approved education provider of their choosing – be it traditional public schools, public charter schools, private schools, virtual learning, or home schooling. Arizona families have a wide variety of education models available for K-12 education for their children.

As an Arizona parent, if you choose to opt-out of the traditional public school system, your child is eligible to receive state-funding (like the ESA Scholarship) for private school tuition or home-based learning. SMIS partners with many tax credit scholarship organizations and the AZ Universal ESA to provide financial assistance to cover tuition. Learn More about ESA and apply today for the upcoming school year for your K-12 student. https://www.azed.gov/esa
