Dear SMIS Parents,
On Friday, March 13, 2020 the Navajo Nation (NN) issued an Executive Order to close schools, both public, private, etc., beginning on March 16, 2020 for a total of three weeks, ending on April 3, 2020. Saint Michael Indian School (SMIS) will comply with the NN Executive Order and will close school beginning March 16, 2020 and reopen after the Easter/Spring Break on April 14, 2020. The SMIS “Spring-Break” will be re-scheduled from March 20, 2020 (half day) – March 30 (PD) to begin on Friday April 3, 2020 – April 13, 2020. Class will resume at SMIS on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
All student activities (including athletic competitions and practice) on and off campus have been canceled beginning on Saturday, March 14, 2020 – Friday, April 3, 2020.
Meals to-go will be provided to children ages 18 and under, beginning on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 through Thursday, April 2, 2020 between the hours of 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM.
Wednesday, March 18, 2020 the SMIS campus will be open from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM for parents to pick up home-work packets for all grades. Pre-K through 5th grade packets will be available in the Elementary front office, and 6th through 12th grade packets will be available at the JR/HS Front office. Note: Middle and HS access to lockers will be available for students to pick up books on Monday and Tuesday (March 16, 17) from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and Wednesday (March 18) from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM. If your student did not take home books in elementary grades and needed books will be with packets on Wednesday.
SMIS school calendar will be extended to May 29, 2020 – using all snow days.
Please keep your children home and safe during this important social distancing period the NN has ordered. Our intention is to keep your child’s mind active and learning!
